Commissioner Jean Pond began her term as a Commissioner in 2018. She and her family have been residents of Spokane – and Whitworth Water District #2 - since 1989. She has taught at Whitworth University since 1990, with courses including cell biology, anatomy and physiology, general microbiology, and infectious disease.
Commissioner Pond has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, and a doctorate in microbiology from the University of South Dakota. She has an on-going interest in water quality as it intersects with general environmental concerns, and regularly has her students make observations of the natural, microscopic inhabitants of the Little Spokane River. Outside of the biology classroom, Commissioner Pond serves as the chairperson of the Board of Directors of Passages Family Support, a local non-profit group. She also teaches private lessons in both modern and New Testament Greek.
Lee Legnon began his term as Commissioner in March of 2021. Commissioner Legnon has dedicated 20 years of his life working in the network and cloud security field. During his career, he lived and worked in Europe for 14 years, initially with the Air Force, then working as a civilian contractor for NATO.
Commissioner Legnon has been a speaker at the US Department of Justice Cyber Crime Conference, EDUCAUSE Higher Education Conference, SANS, InfoSec, VMware VMworld, Citrix Synergy, and other national and global events. He was also a technology advisor to the Assistant United States Attorney. Commissioner Legnon is currently working with Avertium, a top national network and cloud security company. He’s been married to his wife for more than 30 years and has two children.
Martin Hare began his term with Whitworth Water District in the Fall of 2020 after being appointed to the post vacated by retiring Commissioner Dennis Brown. Commissioner Hare is a strong believer of the importance of responding to our environmental needs today so that we can build a better future for generations to come. He is excited to be a Board Member and looks forward to helping to continue the responsible growth of the District while protecting its values of affordable and clean water.
Commissioner Hare was born and raised in Spokane Washington. He has been married for 42 years to his wife Sheri, and has four children and seven grandchildren. Commissioner Hare and his family love spending time camping and boating in North Idaho.
Commissioner Chris Johnson moved to Spokane with his wife and three daughters in 1984, and started working for Divcon Construction as an estimator and project manager. About a year before joining Whitworth Water District in 1998, Commissioner Johnson started attending meetings and learning about the Districts mission and operations. In addition to his serving as a Commissioner for Whitworth Water District, Commissioner Johnson has served 10 years as president and treasurer for Friendship Force of Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho.
Commissioner Johnson enjoys living in the Little Spokane River Valley, traveling to see his children, vacationing in Kauai and numerous foreign countries.
Dennis Brown has served Whitworth Water District for 16 years. He has four grown children, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Commissioner Brown has lived and served the area community for 44 years, volunteering for 15 years with Spokane County Fire District # 4, Five years with SCOPE NORTH, 1 year Trustee for VFW Post 51 as a Life Member, and American Legion member.
Commissioner Brown served four years in the US Navy, graduated from Ohlone College (AA Degree), worked in the wholesale grocery industry in sales and account management.
