Well 3E Continuing Through 2026

Project Description:  This project includes the drilling of a new 20-inch diameter well (completed in 2025), construction of a new well building and installation of a new pump and motor capable of providing 6,500 gallons per minute to the system.  This project is located on an existing well site owned by the District near Hastings and Mayfair Road.

Project Need:  The District requires additional source of water supply to support peak summer (irrigation season) demands in the service area north of the Little Spokane River.  Long-term sustainability concerns are present in the Little Spokane River Aquifer north of the Little Spokane River.  Thus, the District has been working to minimize pumping of that Aquifer by developing additional well sources within the more prolific Spokane Valley Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer.

Expected Outcomes:  Preservation of the Little Spokane River Aquifer resource while maintaining the existing reliable and high level of water service to the District’s customers located north of the Little Spokane River.

Current Status:  Construction of the new well building and installation of new pump and motor was awarded to D.W. Excavating.

Anticipated Schedule:  Construction is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 with completion by the end of the year.

Project Overview Map:

Funding: The District received a DOE Streamflow Restoration Grant of $1,519,000 for the Little Spokane River Water Resiliency Project, which included design and construction for Well 3E. This funding covers approximately 55% of the total Well 3E project cost, with the remainder of the funding coming from District reserves.
